Check our materials page for a list of materials and tools needed.
Lay out blocks to build on if uneven surface like our back yard.
Sides: 2 x 12 x 8: Cut two to 8' and two to 44"
(44" size reduces the width of bin to allow for overhanging lid to save on handle costs)
Lay 44" pieces inside 8' pieces
Set 3" screws in 8' end with hammer to start them
Glue seam (liquid nails)
Square bin
Screw
Mark with pencil, which is front of bin (nicest wood showing)
Bottom: Place 4 x 8 x ¾ plywood on top of sides with the extra inch to the back
Square the box
Square the plywood
Glue around seam (liquid nails)
Screw 2" screws every 8" all the way around bottom
Legs: 2 x 6 x 10, Cut 30" and 30" and 29 ½ and 29 (makes one low corner for downspout)
Place legs on the sides of the bin
Mark lowest front corner with pencil
Screw in with 3" screws, 4 screws each
Hole for downspout: Use drill bit for size downspout tubing and drill
Use Propoxy 20 around bottom to hold in place
Caulking: Use silicone caulk around inside seams of box
Laticrete: Wearing latex gloves put a layer of laticrete on bottom and about 5 inches up sides
Lid support: Cut 2 x 2 to 44". Measure bin to 4'. Put glue on ends then screw to secure in place
Heat Cable Placement: Turn bin over and place heat cable on bottom. Hold heat cable in place with
little U hooks or very carefully with staple gun. Place 4 x 8 x ½ inch insulation board over heat cable
and carefully hammer in roofing nails to secure insulation board.
Lid: Measure and mark 4' on the 4 x 8 x ½ then cut carefully to make two opening lids. Use
sandpaper to soften cut edge
Hinges: Measure 12" from each side. Screw hinges on top first then sides
